Curt's Delectable Herb Cheddar Biscuit Recipe

I am a bread lover kind of guy. We love our cheddar biscuits, these are one we make at least once a month with our meal. Very addicting if I say so myself..  hope you like the recipe.
I could eat just bread sometimes, the cheese is my favorite!

Plain Biscuit Dough

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup shortening
2 tablespoons butter, chilled
1 cup milk

Heat oven to 450°. Adjust oven rack to center position.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Cut in chilled shortening and butter until you have pieces the size of small peas. Make a well in center of dry ingredients; pour in milk. Add any cheese or spices at this point.  With a wooden spoon, gently blend dry ingredients into the milk, just until mixture is clumping together. If necessary, add a few more teaspoons of milk.
Transfer dough to a floured board.

Roll out in a circle about 1/2-inch thick. Using a 2 1/2 to 3-inch biscuit cutter, cut out and place on ungreased baking sheet or on parchment paper. Bake on center oven rack for about 10 to 12 minutes, until tops are browned.

 Herb Cheddar Garlic Biscuits
Add to dough recipe above, 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder mix into the dough as you are mixing the wet ingredients.
Proceed with cutting and baking directions above.

After baked:  In a small bowl, melt 1 tablespoon butter in the microwave for 10 seconds, then add 1 teaspoon chopped parsley, pinch of cayenne pepper, pinch of garlic powder then brush tops.
Sprinkle with more shredded cheddar cheese till melted.
